Palestine.

On 16 December 2023, we held a virtual plenary of the organisations from 8 countries that signed the international declaration entitled “Let’s mobilise all over the world for the victory of the Palestinian struggle. Down with the terrorist state of Israel”. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a campaign to spread the declaration and to promote by all means at our disposal the international mobilisation against the genocide in Palestine and in support of its resistance.

The organisations present in the plenary ratified the terms of the declaration. It is necessary to stop the genocide of the Zionist state in Gaza. After the brief ceasefire, Israel resumed massive bombardments and incursions, also in the south of Gaza, with tanks, helicopters and bulldozers that demolish and set fire to houses with Palestinian victims inside. Already more than 18,000 people have been killed – many of them children – as a result of the action of the Israeli army, backed by American and European imperialism. Two million people have been displaced.

The attacks in the south pose a dramatic worsening of the humanitarian situation, with more than two million people crowded in the south, following the Israeli evacuation order and the constant bombardment of the north. In addition, they have advanced on the West Bank and carried out further bombardments and skirmishes over Lebanon. The action of 7 October was the legitimate response to the continued aggression of the genocidal Israeli state, conveyed by its army and settlers, which has included the deprivation of water and electricity to the Palestinian people.

In this context, massive mobilisations of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their courageous resistance have taken place on all continents, including workers’ actions that have sabotaged the transfer of weapons destined for the Israeli army and a strike in the West Bank. We must extend solidarity with Palestine and denounce in every country the genocide of Israel and the support of the governments that, in every country, sustain it.

Regarding the terms of the statement, the debate in the meeting introduced further points than those included in the statements. The form of political and working class action in each conuntry has a central point in demanding that each of our governments break diplomatic and comercial relations with the State of Israel, as many of the organizations present were already demanding. We reaffirmed that the demand of the right to return of the Palestinian people, and the demand of a secular, united, socialist Palestine are incompatible with the continued existence of the zionist State, a military enclave of imperialism that cannot coexist pacifically with the previous population. Another interesting addition to the terms of the statement was the analysis of the campaign in support of Israel, which includes most bourgeois governments, with a great protagonism of the ultraright. An absurd expression of this have been the demonstrations ostensibly called “against antisemitism” in many European cities, part of a maccarthyist campaign against those who denounce the zionist genocide, which were actually organized by the ultraright, including many actual neonazis and supporters of fascism, who are true antisemites and support Israel’s apartheid state and ethnic cleansing as an example to follow.

We also voted a declaration rejecting the criminalisation of activists in Argentina – undertaken by Zionism and imperialism – and a statement calling for an end to the convictions and charges against those persecuted for demonstrating.

Among other diffusion initiatives, the participating organisations will place the document in our newspapers and social networks, we will record a common video with the contents of the international declaration and we will carry out talks and public presentation activities.
